“The test results came back — it’s cancer.” In a single moment, the world stood still and my heart broke into a million pieces as I heard these words across the telephone line. My beautiful little girl, an English Bulldog named Georgia, had cancer, multicentric lymphoma, at only 4 years old. I will never forget the sheer panic and hopelessness that I felt when I got the diagnosis. How could this happen? What do I do now?
I thought I was an educated pet owner, but never knew how common canine cancer really is, or that my 4 year old bulldog could be at risk. No one seemed to talk about it until AFTER diagnosis, when it was already too late. And, few resources were available to help connect us to the information and support so critical during the fight with cancer. That’s why Georgia’s Legacy was founded.
Based in Wisconsin, Georgia’s Legacy’s mission is to raise awareness of canine cancer and provide information, resource referral and support to anyone affected by this devastating disease.
