Find a Veterinary Specialist

Finding the right veterinary specialists to add to your cancer team is one of the most important steps you can take in helping your dog in their fight.  These are the people you will rely on throughout the journey for advice about treatment options, supplements, nutrition and complementary therapies.

With so many options available to help animals live healthier, longer lives, it's hard for any one vet to be an expert in everything.  That's why it's so important for you, as a pet owner, to do your homework and to help guide your pup's cancer plan by researching different options and finding the right professional to help with the therapies you choose.  You may have to work with several different practitioners at various points to help ensure that your pup has the best chance of beating -- or living a high quality of life -- after a cancer diagnosis.

If this is the case, always be sure that each doctor has ALL of the information he or she needs to make the best decisions about your pup's plan of care.  Remember, even natural supplements and alternative therapies can be powerful medicine and may not always be compatible with conventional treatment protocols.  By keeping good records and maintaining open communication, you and your pup's treatment team can work together in the best interest of your best friend.

When selecting a veterinary professional, be sure to choose one that you are comfortable with and who shares your values and goals regarding your dog's cancer treatment.  Hopefully together, you can find a treatment plan that's just right for you and your dog!
